ABOUT THE JERSEY CITY HEAD START . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Jersey City Child Development Centers, Inc.
(Project Head Start) is a federally funded program for pre-school
children from low income families. The program has been serving
children since 1965 until the present, covering a more than 35 year
span of time. Jersey City Head Start is a part of the National Head
Start Programs which are operated in almost every county in the
country with the inclusion of Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.
Head Start is a Family Development Program which is designed to meet
the basic needs of individual children and families.
Jersey
City Head Start Has made a significant impact in the lives of the
families it serves. The program is committed to providing services
that will help families meet the needs of today and challenges of
tomorrow and the promise of the future. There are, 13 locations
through out the Jersey City area. Head Start neighborhood centers
are equipped and staffed to provide a variety of educational
activities for children and families.
Parent participation is
welcome and encouraged in the program in a variety of ways. Parents
are viewed as the primary educators of their children and valued as
meaningful and important partners to the success of their children
and the Head Start Program.
Head Start draws on the strengths
and resources of the community, staff and parents, to enrich the
life of each child enrolled and provides a broad range of human
services to help each family unit to grow to the fullest of their
potential. In addition to the Educational Services provided, support
services include Health Service, Parent Involvement, Nutrition,
Disabilities Services, and Social Services.
